It was his idea and he signed it into law in Massachusetts. Flipflops, anyone?
I'm going to call foul on the notion that Romney is a flip-flopper and here's why:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.That's the
10th Amendment to the Constitution. It's very clear from that single sentence that the states have wide latitude for exercising power but the federal government's range is very narrow. Since Romney was the governor of a STATE he was simply giving his solidly liberal constituency what it wanted. On a nation level the people also want some of the provisions of socialized health care but in my opinion the constitution forbids it.
Personally, I don't think states should be providing health care or health insurance for their citizens but if they choose to go down that path, it's their business.
