Re: What are the Polls Telling Us?

A number of polls have come out this week reporting that O has opened up a small but significant lead against Mitt Romney, especially in certain battleground states.  Gallup, however, today published the following job approval numbers:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx

Approve of O's performance:  43%
Disapprove:   51%

Is it really possible for an incumbent with ratings like that to secure reelection through negative campaigning?  Is there a precedent?

Those poll numbers show how disillusioned lefties and independents are with Obama's job performance but the voters at large consider Romney to be worse.
