Re: What are the Polls Telling Us?

A number of polls have come out this week reporting that O has opened up a small but significant lead against Mitt Romney, especially in certain battleground states.  Gallup, however, today published the following job approval numbers:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx

Approve of O's performance:  43%
Disapprove:   51%

Is it really possible for an incumbent with ratings like that to secure reelection through negative campaigning?  Is there a precedent?

Those poll numbers show how disillusioned lefties are with Obama's job performance but consider Romney to be worse.

There aren't enough lefties to drive these polls.  I'm not disputing that you are accurately characterizing the lefties, but they make up only a small slice of the samples.
