You can make a legitimate argument that business did fund, or help fund, those things.

You can, but you can also make an argument that business didn't fund any of those things, their customers did.  Since businesses get their money from selling to customers, the retail customer in the final link in a long chain of transactions.

I think people would be shocked if they ever found out how much of the price of this-or-that is taxes being collected by the long string of businesses in the supply chain.
