Gentlemen, what the UK calls marginal doesn't translate into American English anymore than spanner or bonnet does.

Let's keep the apples comparable to apples without throwing oranges and lemons into it.

American English does not always directly corresponds with British English and vice versa even though it sounds like the same terms are used.  While "apples and oranges" is a frequent American metaphor, "" is British, and it's also the name of a tune the BBC used to use as an interval signal, and this is despite the fact they've been called "limeys".

You don't understand the term "marginal [income tax] rate"??  It has NOTHING to do with "British" English.
It has everything to do with comparing America's idea of it to the British idea of it. Your huge WHAT?!? signifies you're not sufficiently familiar with the UK to even discuss any such comparison.
