The biggest change in the Republican Party happened as the result of White Flight from the Dixiecrat-controlled Democrat Party in 1964...
I was there, I saw it happen, and I didn't see a fantasy. ..

yeah, how do you explain that the Governorships of the most southern states remained in the hands of Democrat segregationists? Lester Maddox, George Wallace,etc., and all the segregationist democrat senators from the south?Like Byrd, Erwin, Fulbright, etc.  Its your Party, the Democrats that carry the racist baggage. It wasn't the Democrats in Congress that enacted the civil rights act of 1964. It was the Republicans. And The Southern bigot voters in the Democratic Party kept rewarding their men in Congress. They didn't go and join the Party of Lincoln.

Furthermore...... Henry "Scoop" Jackson.  How far would he get in today's Democratic Party?
