I see very few ideas that have a constitutional basis.

Me too, but that hasn't stopped congress.  In today's world congress essentially passes every new law or spending program on it's authority to "regulate commerce" or it's authority to promote the "general welfare."  Making them identify one wouldn't change anything although it might make us feel good.

We don't agree on much politically, Ted, but we agree on these points. QFT.
But a "strict constructionist" judge that cons find preferable can't get much more strict than the wording in the Constitution itself, now, can he.
