You a little off base.  I grant your point about a strong middle class but I will say that is both both parties goal.  The problem is the differing philosophies ON HOW TO ACHEIVE THAT.  Clinton, JFK, and Reagan had the strongest economic presidencies.  And they shared a common philosophy.  Sensible tax systems that don't remove money from a struggling economy AND keeping spending at a lower percentage of GDP than we have now.
A reminder for kentay:
I fully support going back to ALL, that says ALL THE CLINTON TAX and spend policies that led to the economic boom in the second half of the 90's.
