I've been avoiding this thread because I'm a realist.  Eliminating poverty is a great dream..... but that's all it is, a dream.

So is the Commandment of loving your neighbor as you love yourselves but Christian men like you don't give up, unless you don't believe the words of Christ who said: "A new command I give you: Love one another". As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Love requires work and help for the least among us, I don't think you would ever give up on your children, we are all Gods Children.   kentay

ain't it the truth kentay...how do these cons or dems for that matter, reconcile their christianity, their belief in jesus and his teachings, with the immorality of their wars? including the drug war?
they've done naught, but deprive the many, who are barely surviving, whilst enriching the few that already have plenty, and in so doing becoming corrupt, mean spirited, small, and punitive.

Donni, I Just Know that when I call myself a Christian man it is a reflection of what I believe; and I should at least try to follow the teachings of Christ. What I find is many people who say they are Christians never talk about what Christ said and avoid his teaching completely because if they didn't they would have a hard time justifying their action and the words that come out of their mouths. I learned at a early age that what comes from your mouth is directly connected to your heart and is what you place as most important and what you love. kentay

well, i wasn't focusing on you personally, and i've found that politicians are great at mouthing what we all want to hear and doing the exact opposite as soon as they are in the control seat of any project-doesn't matter, repug or dim-because now all they care about is dollars and control as if it's a virtue. we must get the money OUT of our politics-it is chopping off our noses to spite our faces.

yea, u keep telling yourself that-i know it helps u and many others get to sleep at night-but i'm here to tell u it's rude because it's dismissive and patronizing. most poverty is unnecessary and the sore of an indifferent society to human suffering-sometimes even when it's right in front of their faces!

oh, they're dirty-so they deserve their poverty, or oh, they're stupid and so deserve their poverty, they drink, they do drugs, they deserve it, etc. it is their own fault -not your concern-all better now-go to bed.

Poverty isn't just for the working poor anymore, which is why cons want to "expand the tax base" to include taxing the poor.  I'm speaking of the millions of middle class people who have been booted from their jobs and then got foreclosed on, who are now poor.

Without much of a middle class left, the only people to "expand the tax base" to is the poor.

Poverty is the result of predation by the 1%.  They are economically predatory.

So if we simply confiscated the wealth of the top 1% and distributed it, that would end poverty, right?
