News & Politics / Re: Jindal's Stupid Party

...the USA will evolve into one great big entitlement state where industrious people are driven away and replaced by masses of listless people who are content to stand in long lines with their hands out waiting for the master to give them their allotment.

Let me expand on this a bit.  Industrious people will indeed be driven away because laws and regulations will prevent them from being industrious but power hungry people will feel and ever stronger draw toward government and politics because that's where the real power and riches will be.

They continue their losing streak and still insist that their political religion is the true political religion--they just need to sell it differently.

We need better salesmen. We don't any more plastic guys, old guys, or angry guys. Conservatives would win more elections if they put more effort into finding candidates that are appealing in all of the superficial ways. It would also help if voters got wiser but there is no evidence that's happening.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm pessimistic about the long term prospects for the USA. Yeah, we may win some elections in the short term but in the long run I think it is much more likely that the USA will evolve into one great big entitlement state where industrious people are driven away and replaced by masses of listless people who are content to stand in long lines with their hands out waiting for the master to give them their allotment.

Just like the telemarketer of yore, rejection is rejected and all that's done is dropping the price and upping the sales pitch while crying foul and whining about the better competition.

What part of NO SALE do you cons not understand?

Aside from the Senate and the White House, what other parts of the federal system have Democrats been dominating lately?

Daydream Believer.

You can claim that Republican control of the House of Representatives is due to the vagaries of the apportionment process, but how do you explain the GOP's recent domination of governorships and state legislatures?

If voters made their decisions on a political philosophy or ideology we would see one party dominance throughout recent history but we don't. This means that the voters are either changing their core ideology from election to election, which I can't really believe, or they are casting their votes based on other factors such as personality, style, etc.

Take in a segment of Jay Walking on the Leno show and this should give you an indication of the kind of thinking behind the average disinterested voter.

And Maddow did make a good point, which was clearly overridden by the horrid looping insert: Rubio's speech was Romney warmed over, as if Romney didn't lose and those arguments were actually valid when they weren't.

You are assuming that the voters rejected the message and not the messenger. IMO that's mostly incorrect. They rejected a stiff white millionaire with zero personality in favor of a stylish minority with a flair for making nonsense seem reasonable.  It was a personality contest.

If it were to come to pass that a meteorite (meteors don't hit the Earth--only meteorites do) hit in a place on the planet that was populated and otherwise caused major calamity in the nation where that was to occur, I predict that Christians everywhere would name the thing Wormwood because it would prove that the Book of Revelation was a self-fulfilling "prophecy".

If I were famous enough to predict that a meteorite would hit the Earth and caused major calamity and predicted that people would call it "Ixblat", people would indeed name the next calamitous meteorite "Ixblat" and proclaim that my prophecy came true.
