mmmmn. looks like this was the original thought behind the capitalists promotion of the idea that capitalism promotes innovation, ambition, etc. good things. when in fact those things can all be had w/o capitalism. rewards come in many packages that the capitalists are too greedy to consider as real.
I don't know if it's the source, since the Talmud predates capitalism by over a thousand years, but it is certainly consistent with it. But contrary to your assertion, capitalism [and the greed which drives it] in fact DOES lead to both innovation and prosperity. Marxism, which fancies itself more idealistic, does not.
