A Necessary Evil: The Yetzer ha-Ra
by GEOFFREY DENNIS

http://ejmmm2007.blogspot.com/2006/12/necessary-evil-yetzer-ha-ra.html

Last week I explained that in Judaism ha-SatanYetzer ha-RaYetzer ha-TovYetzerWhy? Because were it not for the Yetzer ha-Ra no one would build a house, take a wife, give birth, or engage in commerce.

In other words, God is the source of the Yetzer ha-Ra

If greed and evil were abolished, we wouldn't be human.

Humans were created in God's image/likeness, after all.  God must have been one ugly dude.

The urge to procreate is inspired by the Yetzer ha-Ra.

oh, duh, got it. not that i think it a correct analogy.

mmmmn. looks like this was the original thought behind the capitalists promotion of the idea that capitalism promotes innovation, ambition, etc. good things. when in fact those things can all be had w/o capitalism. rewards come in many packages that the capitalists are too greedy to consider as real.

"Virtue and greed is inversely proportional" (Plato)
Greed comes about due to feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. If there was no more valuable pursuits in life than money/power we would indeed be shallow.

Then it stands to reason that the democrat party is the party of "shallow" because they are constantly pursuing the money of the wealthy.

Republican Campaign Mantra:
We turned over a real mess to President Obama, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so give us another chance to  create a depression.

I don't know if it's the source, since the Talmud predates capitalism by over a thousand years, but it is certainly consistent with it.  But contrary to your assertion, capitalism [and the greed which drives it] in fact DOES lead to both innovation and prosperity.  Marxism, which fancies itself more idealistic, does not.
