I Have to Make a Confession
« on: July 28, 2012, 06:49:14 am »
There's been a lot of chatter about discrimination here lately so I think it's time for me to come clean.

When I was a young man on the dating scene I was a total sexist.  I didn't even once consider asking a man on a date.  I totally, and I mean TOTALLY discriminated against men.  I can't believe I was so thoughtless, and apparently I'm a homophobe too.

Will you all ever forgive me?

Ted, You didn't have to tell this board your confession, because most poster know from a person's everyday post what he's willing to defend, promote or be against and it's  connected directly to what you believe. I personally despise discrimination because it so corrosive to both the person's discriminating and the person's receiving the discrimination and it poisons all who take sides and has destroyed country and people.  I believe that you should love your neighbor as you love yourself provided he doesn't try to harm you or your family. kentay

Republican Campaign Mantra:
We turned over a real mess to President Obama, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so give us another chance to  create a depression.

You are allowed to believe that Kentay, but should you be allowed to force other people to conform to your beliefs?  That's the real question. Let's ponder that one for a while Kentay, shall we?

Over the years I have noticed that progressive dems can't differentiate between a person's personal beliefs and how they express those beliefs politically.  Personally I prefer women, would not support elective abortion within my relationships, and could care less if gays get married.  But in all three I would not impose those beliefs on my neighbors or have the federal government involved in them one way or the other.

This is why I refuse to call these guys and gals liberals.  They want the all powerful government involved.

Yep, the word liberal comes from the word liberty, which means the absence of coercion.  We all know that modern liberals are really about equality, not liberty. That is why I think the word leftist is a better fit for today's modern liberal or progressive.  I try to use the word leftist instead of liberal whenever I can.

Ted as one Christian man to another, do you think the world we live in; if all Christians practices the teaching of Jesus words like those below. Instead of envy, greed, selfishness, and discrimination we would live in a better word just because it would change our own hearts toward what we think about others, let's ponder that one for a while Ted, shall we? kentay

In Matthew, when asked "which is the great commandment in the law?", the Bible reports that Jesus answered, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind", before also referring to a second commandment, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself".

And they have no shame.  Out of one side of their mouth they emotionally rant about their love of the beloved constitution to include the first amendment while out of the other they twist the teachings of Jesus to fit their agenda and Jude those who disagree with them.

Context is everything, and it's society that makes the judgements. Feel free to speak your mind here on this board as long as you don't get me or the host into legal trouble, but in speaking your mind, expect society to render judgement on what you say.

And society changes with time. As an Al Sharpton promo points out, slavery used to be acceptable; blacks riding at the back of the bus and Jim Crow used to be acceptable until we stopped accepting it.  It was a discussion with majesty (DAMN I wish he'd register here!  but I know he's busy with his music these days) regarding the use of "the n-word" when I brought up this point, and it was before Sharpton came up with his promo.

Majesty is of the George Carlin school of thought on that...it should be said so often that it loses its meaning; I, on the other hand, who am otherwise from the George Carlin school of thought on a number of things, recognize that no other term has the manner of history and connotation attached to it that this term does.  It's a term that society found acceptable until we stopped accepting it and currently it's not accepted. Society has made its ruling.

What the the left has lately described as discrimination is not.  The left is punishing people for religious beliefs and speech, not actions.  Hell, these loons don't know what was said, by whom,  simply repeating the charges of their talking point memos then claiming they are reporting what they see.

I love this place.  Very funny **** posted here.   :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

You realize, I hope, that a large majority of blacks resent the now commonplace comparison that you are making between racism and gay marriage as a civil and human right.

What is society?  Is society the will of the majority acting with the coercive power of government or is society just sum of individuals making judgments for themselves?

My guess is that if it were legal for a restaurant to put up a whites only sign today, they would have very few customers.  Most people would be appalled and would dine elsewhere but would do it of their own volition, not because of a law.

As an Al Sharpton promo points out, slavery used to be acceptable...

The repulsive thing is that the government allowed slavery to happen.  Slavery is completely incompatible with liberty and should have never been allowed in the USA. Never. No person should have ever been allowed to own another person.

However, lets not confuse slavery with discrimination.  There is a world of difference between forcing one person to labor for another and allowing someone to decide not to associate with another because they are different.

The error in your statement lies in the phrase "comparison that you are making between racism and gay marriage as a civil and human right" is the word "gay".

Marriage is a civil right to all races and all genders, and that includes "mixin'". Races, same or mixed; genders, same or mixed.
