Microsoft And Apple Did Build 'That'
August 5, 2012

" If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." -President Barack Obama

On the contrary I believe companies like Microsoft (MSFT), Intel (INTC) and Apple (AAPL) lend to the infrastructure around them the same way Ford (F) did 100 years ago. In 2011 Microsoft, Intel and Apple paid over $18B in corporate income taxes combined. Though the president said successful Americans did not build roads and bridges, their tax dollars in fact did.

The president made this statement to justify raising taxes; while the General Services Administration spent $20,000 on drumsticks; novelties for a party in honor of themselves. They could have bought hundreds of stethoscopes for medical doctors, instead somebody invested tax dollars in party favors.

The 435 Congresspeople, 100 Senators and the president did not build the buildings they work in. They certainly did not build the roads or bridges; their predecessors allocated Americans' tax dollars towards projects that Americans wished for.

Republican Campaign Mantra:
We turned over a real mess to President Obama, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so give us another chance to  create a depression.

DARPA?  Wasn't that te evil Corp. on Lost?

My bad, that was dharma.

Anyway, yes, DARPA was a crude method that allowed the pentagon a method to communicate with military bases in a nuclear war.

TCIP/IP, Internet protocol, was influenced by DARPA but not created by the government.

A reminder for kentay:
I fully support going back to ALL, that says ALL THE CLINTON TAX and spend policies that led to the economic boom in the second half of the 90's.

I knew you'd fall into that one!

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443931404577555073157895692.html

The government's Advanced Research Projects Agency led to ARPAnet. This early Internet was taxpayer funded, but BBN Technologies did the development, Honeywell handled the hardware, and AT&T provided phone lines. Researchers from Rand, MIT and UCLA were involved. Vint Cerf of Stanford and Robert Kahn of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and BBN get credit for TCP/IP, the backbone of the modern Internet. Reader comments also highlighted ideas from pioneers such as MIT's J.C.R. Licklider and Rand's Paul Baran.

In a letter in today's Journal, Mr. Cerf and Stephen Wolff write that both government and the private sector had important roles and that "focusing on one element to the exclusion or disparagement of other elements is simplistic, misleading and wrong." Yes: And with so much credit to go around, why does President Obama only give credit to government?

Neither Microsoft nor Apple ever built a road. They didn't build that.
Neither Microsoft nor Apple ever built a bridge. They didn't build that.
Neither Microsoft nor Apple ever built an airport. They didn't build that.

Microsoft DID build a predatory and insane patent system (created "intellectual property" as a legal concept but only after they robbed Apple of theirs; etc. etc.), created, which is the government.

Microsoft DID take a government programming language, CP/M wanked it off a bit and then claimed it was MSDOS. Microsoft didn't build that, it was still mostly CP/M all the way through MSDOS 5.

Microsoft DID swipe other people's technologies FIRST, and THEN wanked the legal system to include "intellectual property" so that nobody could do to Microsoft what Microsoft did to others.  Windows is STILL Apple's intellectual property, but stolen with legal blessing.

Microsoft sure as hell didn't build squat.

Wow, looks like you're as ideological and economically illiterate as O himself.

If you are really incapable of perceiving the vast benefit created by Microsoft and Apple, quite independent of the government, then it's a sad commentary.
