Wisconsin Recall

Any predictions for the recall election tonight? RCP has Walker winning by a nose, I think that will probably be accurate.

From what I heard it looks like Walker may win.  Everyone is trying to make this a national issue, but I doubt it would be that way at all.  This issue is not going to set up to be the foot work for our November Elections

Walker is the projected winner by 61% as of the timestamp of this posting. He paid a bundle for his office so he gets to keep it, apparently.

A good and right outcome I'd say.  It's nice to see a government expansion get throttled back a bit from time to time.

On my morning drive I heard that Walker's win last night was by a bigger margin that his election 2 years ago. I don't know if this is accurate but if is, this seems to mean that Walker is generally moving in a popular direction.  Being popular isn't always good but in this case I think it is.

I hope conservative politicians learn from this recall election that they can make bold conservative moves and not lose elections.

Not so fast. He could very well lose a regular election, as a lot of folks thought that the recall election was uncalled for. The national issue now raised is how valid exit polling is anymore, because like was the case in Florida in 2000, the polls didn't match the results. There's also the matter of all those petition signatures that were verified and accepted by Wisconsin. If all the petition signers cast a vote for the ouster of Walker, then Walker should have lost.  Stuff just doesn't add up there.

I agree with this. Exit polling, like polling in general, isn't perfect. I think some folks will says one thing to a pollster but do another in the privacy and anonymity of the voting booth.

Your logic is flawed Clara. It's been many years since I've signed a petition of any sort yet I vote in every election.  People with vested interests sign petitions, people with a general interest in their government, vote.  This is where the disconnect is.  Petitions by nature only represent one point of view.  Petitions are just a list of people who favor something.  They don't reflect those people who didn't sign.  The people who said "no thanks" to the idea of the recall weren't counted until the vote yesterday.

Maybe Mickey Mouse and Adolph Hitler were too busy to vote.

That is just it though, they did not have that high of a turn out.  I am not sure how many who signed showed up, but the voter turn out was like 58%

The pro-removal folks may have stayed home but overall it was the largest turnout ever for a non-presidential election.

Quote
La Crosse wasn't the only county getting out the vote. Statewide, turnout was 57.7 percent, the highest ever for a Wisconsin gubernatorial election. Turnout among eligible voters was up in every Wisconsin county by an average of 8 percentage points over 2010, a State Journal analysis showed.

...or that state's voting routine is just as questionable as Florida's. ;)
