DITTO!
i HATE censorship-like what linc has done to me. he took a page from our gov'ts m.o. and did what they do to anyone that is in their way or has something they want for cheap, (in my case, linc, just couldn't stand my opinions- too reasoned, i guess. i put his prez in the same category, rightly, as all the other disappointments. apparently, that will not happen on linc's board during campaign season!) it's a two pronged attack -first you claim the right to do it to any and all entities in defense of the group, ie: war on terrorism and NDAA, (in linc's case it was that he gets to change the 'rules' at any time and enforce them by 'banning' or 'restricting' posting capabilities in order to save the others from your 'disruptions'-ha! :ahole:).
well, then you simply label your target with a term (in my case it was 'flooder', even tho i had less posts than most members) that allows you cover, ie: 'terrorist' and 'collateral damage'. so then you get to bomb the **** out of any country you want, you get to nab anyone you want, and kill them, too! (in my case, he stopped my posting abilities-i can read and pm on the forum, but i can't post my opine, anymore-he hasn't banned me outright for some reason. i guess he thinks he's 'imprisoned' and 'torturing' me. ha. :ahole:).
there is an exception tho, i think. cases where a preponderance of ALL the people involved can agree that certain 'speech' is unacceptable. i'm speaking of things like speaking ill of the dead in that group or their Loved ones-that kind of thing. i remember back on DBS someone started speaking ill of sam ayam and for the first time ever i spoke up to the moderator to ask that the offending post be removed. it happened and i was relieved. some people just like to smear **** on the bathroom wall just for the sake of being rude and disgusting and shocking. there really just is no use for that kind of attitude in any society. the person needs psychiatric care.
Umm, that last paragraph hit home over here because that might have been me that was perceived as "speaking ill of the dead" when I posted that my personal policy toward online accounts equated to anybody-being-anybody-they-want-to-be-online, and with the presence of F&BWC, who was creating puppet accounts with different personnas just for
****-n-giggles, I wasn't in a position to judge who was real and who wasn't.
I recall vividly the outrage that I wouldn't recognize Sam as a real person and was judged to be speaking ill of the dead. I maintain to this day, though, that in general, nobody but a neighbor would know an online personna as real or not and I would always take a character, puppet, or real person at face value. It's the only practical thing to do online, and it remains my personal policy.
Simple Machines forum ware doesn't permit more than one account here per person, and although not permitting more than one account per person is followed on this board, I'm rather lax about that mainly because of the international members here. They've basically been spammers, but there is one legit Russian registered (even though he has yet to post) and I'm also aware of the necessity for IP and identity masking in countries that don't permit free speech or freedom in Internet access. Because of that I'm inclined to permit one person to have more than one account with the proviso that I'm informed who it is that belongs to which accounts and be apprised of why this is necessary.
I have a problem with board flooding, but so far so good (DBS folks would do well to remember Bubba!). My idea of restricting flooding would be to give the flooder his own mini-board just like the ones I set up for individuals who sorta-blog, just to give the person the space to get up on his/her soapbox separate from the open discussions part of the board. Freedom of speech reigns supreme over here (as long as it gets nobody into legal trouble, that is).
Anybody who wants to have a mini blog spot like I set up for Ted & RWE can just ask for one. You'll be named the moderator of your own board section and you call the shots there.
