Obamacare - The next chapter
« on: June 29, 2012, 05:36:43 am »
Alright, it looks like Obamacare is here to stay.  Given that fact lets go over the key provisions:

1. Everybody MUST buy a government approved health insurance policy.
2. Anybody failing to buy said policy will be subject to a financial penalty.
3. The amount of the penalty is very low, much lower than the cost of the premiums.
4. If a person fails to pay the penalty there is no provision to go after that person.
5. Insurance companies must write a policy for anyone asking, even the terminally ill.
6. Insurance companies cannot drop coverage for a person unless he or she dies.

Given all that, my question is: Why would anyone buy insurance unless he or she were sick?  Put another way; why would anybody pay monthly homeowners insurance premiums if they could wait until the day after their house burned to the ground to get coverage?

Instead of paying a thousand dollars a month for family coverage why wouldn't I just drop my coverage completely and pocket the savings?  If I got sick or hurt, couldn't I just call up the insurance company, make them write me a policy and a check to the doctor, and then when I felt better drop my coverage and do it all over if I got sick again?

I also wonder why any businessman would remain in the health insurance industry if they lost money on every customer.

I just contributed $250 to Mitt Romney.

1) Mitt Romney won't be king should he be elected president.

2) It was his idea and he signed it into law in Massachusetts. Flipflops, anyone?

I'm going to call foul on the notion that Romney is a flip-flopper and here's why:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

That's the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.  It's very clear from that single sentence that the states have wide latitude for exercising power but the federal government's range is very narrow.  Since Romney was the governor of a STATE he was simply giving his solidly liberal constituency what it wanted.  On a nation level the people also want some of the provisions of socialized health care but in my opinion the constitution forbids it.

Personally, I don't think states should be providing health care or health insurance for their citizens but if they choose to go down that path, it's their business.

Sure..., why not?
----"Do you believe that each individual American should be required to have health insurance?" asked Jonathan LaPook, an M.D. and a medical correspondent for CBS News.
"I have come to that conclusion," Obama said. "During the campaign I was opposed to this idea ... I am now in favor of some sort of individual mandate..."

---STEPHANOPOULOS:  That may be, but it's still a tax increase.
OBAMA: No.  That's not true, George.  The - for us to say that you've got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase.

I just contributed $250 to Mitt Romney.

The thought of supporting Romney makes me queasy but the thought of supporting the only guy in a position to defeat Obama and his leftist agenda makes it more palatable.

The issue that people fail to realize is what Romney did as Governor is NOT the same thing.  It was a STATE issue vs a Federal issue.   So that graphic is wrong.  Romney signed a state law, not a national law

1)  Obamacare is a Rube Goldberg-style contraption which cannot survive without a friendly executive.  It probably can't survive with one.

2)  Thank G-d!  And, otherwise, he wouldn't still be running for President, would he?

That was then, this is now. Imagine that a Congress and a President passed a law mandating that every American must go to a Christian Church on every Sunday or pay a hefty tax. According to the liberals on the SC, even if this mandate is found unconstitutional, the government still has the constitutional authority to tax those who fail to attend Church.
Constitutional Law...So easy even a caveman liberal can do it.
