Have you noticed as the Unions lost membership and become less powerful...

I intend to address all of your points but I just have a few minutes and this is a piece of low hanging fruit.

Have you noticed that there was an industrial revolution in the past century? Have you noticed that there is a productivity tool called the computer that is present in nearly every office in America?

The death spiral of union membership comes about in most part because automation and machinery has eliminated the need for people to perform highly repetitive tasks for their income.  For example it used to be that a typical factory would employ dozens of workers all running identical lathes all producing the same part.  Each worker would turn  the X axis handle so many turns clockwise, then the Y axis handle so many turns in some other direction.  All of the workers would do exactly the same task all day long.  The workers were interchangeable.

In the field, farm hands would walk the rows picking crops from sunrise to sunset; all doing exactly the same thing.  They too were interchangeable.

Back in those days it made sense to collectively bargain because many of your coworkers were doing exactly the same thing, and I mean EXACTLY the same thing.  In today's world the lathes are all computer controlled.  The amount of mindless of repetition has gone down; way down.  The worker of today is much more likely to be getting paid for using his or her brain than their ability to perform repetitive tasks.  Since brainpower is highly variable it no longer makes sense for the most talented to toss themselves into a big pool along with the least talented and everyone else and collectively bargain.  That's the real reason union membership is dwindling along with the fact that there aren't fleets of workers all doing the same thing anymore.

As for the good old days of repetitive factory work, you can have that.  I'd much rather be sitting in an air conditioned office designing new products than be on the shop floor with 25 of my closest friends all doing the exact same thing every 30 seconds, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Here's a reminder that in Reagan's day, there were more Blue Dog Democrats plus Reagan Democrats than there were liberals under today's definition, part of which Newt Gingrich defined, but after Reagan's era.
So you're disagreeing with kentay's assertion that the country is less liberal today than 30 years ago, right?

Here's a reminder that the ruling of the Supreme Court is final. It's a tax.
So why does the Obama Administration keep lying to us and saying its not a tax? Its the biggest tax increase in history. Chalk one up for the tax and spenders.

I made a statement of fact. It is what it is and it remains what it is.

Obama is simply agreeing with Romney's opinion. Romney is just as much a liar as Obama is on this. XD

You should be a Romney supporter since he is the mastermind behind Obama's greatest achievement.

Sure!...except we've already got one of those in office, and in terms of experience, he's 4 years ahead of Romney.  :wuv:

So far all he's done is copy Bush and Romney. Other than implementing Romneycare its been like George Bush's 3rd term.

Too true, alas. One of the many, many reasons I remain an independent. Democrats stink too.

We are a center right country that is failing ever since the 1980 until present. Clinton turn over 5.6 trillion as far as the eye could see along with 4 years of paying down the deficits. Then the right took power started two unpaid for wars, started a prescription  pill program and all of them place on the future Generations charge card  and still managed to spend the 5.6 trillion.   kentay
You are confused. During Reagan's two terms the house was controlled by Democrats and the Senate for two years. Government entitlements expanded every year. Bush I had both houses controlled by democrats. government entitlements expanded every year. Clinton had two years with a democrat controlled house and senate. It wasn't until the house and senate went republican that any deficit reduction occurred. You complain about the right taking over...then brag up Clinton for the things the right did. You are confused. Then, yeah, Bush was too liberal with spending and ran up "the future generations charge card." But since obama took over he has ran it up even worse and you praise him. You are confused.

Reagan Supported the "Socialist" Earned Income Tax Credit
Both during and after the 2008 presidential campaign, Republican candidates and commentators blasted Barack Obama's proposals to offer Americans expanded tax credits as "socialism", "welfare" and worse. If so, they should also be directing their ire at Ronald Reagan.

While virtually all working Americans pay the Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes (levies increased by President Reagan), many don't pay federal income tax thanks to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). As the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities noted in 2005, the EITC was not only very successful in lowering poverty, the provision "has enjoyed substantial bipartisan support. President Reagan, President George H. W. Bush, and President Clinton all praised it and proposed expansions in it."

While many of his conservative heirs now express disdain for the working poor, Ronald Reagan championed the refundable Earned Income Tax Credit. As the American Prospect recalled in 2006:

Nixon sign into law the Income tax credit
Almost 20 years ago, as he signed into law the tax bill expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, President Ronald Reagan hailed it as "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress."
Republican Campaign Mantra:
We turned over a real mess to President Obama, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so give us another chance to  create a depression.

Are you trying to say that the country was farther left than today because Reagan was in favor of lower taxes?

Hello, kentay!  What's the deal with you and our genial, beloved host at hypercrites.com?

To address your point, I don't find much relevance in the argument over whether the individual mandate is a tax or a penalty.  The point is that CJ Roberts, in his infinite wisdom, justified the scheme as an exercise of the taxing power.

wbcoleman,  hello back at you I thought you were one of the administrators over there did you quit? The reason I stop posting over there is  too much of a clique for me. Only those that are part of the clique get away with saying anything  about anyone or any post anyone might make,  any way they are past history in my life. kentay

As far as Judge Roberts all I can say is he's the one  in charge and everyone who has ever been in charge knows there is a big difference in decision  from a leaders thinking to a workers thinking.  Almost any side right or left can justify it with our constitution regardless of politics.   It reminds me of religion and how different religions can justify their own dogma for or against anything and people will follow.  When you have some people that are such radically invested partisans from either side that they can never find any Ideas that maybe valid and or good for the country,  then they are just political hacks and should not be Justices. As much as some partisan radicals may think that  only good legal decisions for our country have only come from their side , they are wrong and don't know  the history of this country.  I Just find it interesting how easy you go from beloved leader to coward  in the conservative world, it reminds me how children act. kentay

Gee, I find it remarkable how instantly the Chief Justice went from being a threat to the constitutional order to an Aristotelian figure in the eyes of the Left.
