House Republicans Plan Two Month Vacation, Leaving Key Bills Awaiting Action
By Josh Israel on Sep 14, 2012

House Republican Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) announced Friday that after next week, the House will stand in recess until November 13. His plan for a nearly two month vacation will undoubtedly allow more time for campaigning, but will leave several vital bills awaiting action.

Among the important legislation the House will likely not address before the November elections:

Republican Campaign Mantra:
We turned over a real mess to President Obama, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so give us another chance to  create a depression.

Let's put this thread into what we will call kentay world, a bizar twist of the Rabbit Hole world.

If the senate and Obama create or pass a bill they know the repubs won't pass that is the republicans fault.  If the repubs pass a bill the senate won't or Obama won't sign, it is the republicans fault.

See?  2+2=0.

Now that the snarky moment is out of the way let's look at the truth.

1.  The house has passed a version of VAWA that is similiar to the one that has passed two times previously.  The senate does not like it.  The details are on kentay's other thread.  Hopefully he will man up and post them.

2.  The house has passed over thirty pieces of legislation that are geared to job creation.  No senate action.  What kentay does not realize is that in 2010 the GOP overwhelmingly, historically, took control of the house with the expressed wishes of the voters saying no more stimulus.

3.  In both the 2011 and 2012 budget proposals taxes were addressed.

4.  Needs more research.

5.  When will the dems compromise?  Where are Obama's and more importantly, Reid's proposals?

6.  Needs more research.

7.  Wind tax?  Of course the house ain't gonna pass that.

I find odd that when the dems in the senate have not passed a budget in over three years you would actually **** and whine like this.  Particularly when the house has written bills addressing 5 of your points.

1. Violence against PEOPLE is already against the law. Women don't need a special law.  Violence is a state issue anyway.

2. Just because the title of the law has the the word 'jobs' in it doesn't mean it will actually create jobs.  The feds should just stay away and things will bet better.  Ever hear of over-steering?

3. Tax cuts should be aimed at tax payers period.  The tax code shouldn't be used for favoritism or punishment.

4. I don't know anything about that.

5. I don't have any problems with automatic budget cuts.  The govt has grown fat and can easily be cut in all areas.

6. There should be no farm bill.  Farmers should grow crops they can sell.  If there are no buyers for their carrots then they shouldn't plant carrots.  Simple.

7. Wind power companies should be treated like farmers should be treated.  See number 6.

In my opinion this a Republican repeat of the 1948 do nothing Congress. It's all there in our history books just Google it and see what the Republicans did back then and compare it to what they are doing today. No Congress in the last 100 years and maybe ever,  have taken off 2 months. Why should they get paid when they are not doing their job and so many of those people without jobs have to pay for their lazy do nothing congress, wake up America and tell them enough. Ether start working for our country or start packing.   kentay

Again, there are bills awaiting senate action.  When is the senate going to act?  And again, three years without a budget.

The veterans lob corp act is not in the house.  It is still in the senate.  Republicans have voted for it but their concern is they will create TEMPORARY JOBS.  Once the money is gone so are the jobs.  They have offered alternative plans that include tax incentives for hiring vets.

As far as the farm bill the flap is over the SNAP program cuts.  Even kentay should know what that is. The senate bill offers cuts to SNAP but the pubs want deeper cuts.  Additionally, a bill was offered by Sen Johnson to sever the SNAP PROGRAM from agriculture bills but that was denied by senate dems.  As of this posting the House repubs are going to vote on an extension of the current farm bill.

I hope you're right.

Congress has been making laws for 230 years. We already have every important law we need.  They should take 10 years off.  I say don't just do something, STAND THERE!

I agree in general.  I would like to see them pass legislature that is restricted to their enumerated powers.   Everything else?  Nah.

Ted after this short time of posting with you i know you're in the right party as it fits you to a tee.  I hope I'm right too, and it's just like the 1948 election except instead of Dewey it will be Romney going down because of the Republicans and the do nothing congress. In all my years I cannot ever remember anything the Republicans have tried to do for the middle class unless there was money to be made in it, for them. Because greed and selfishness is how their brains are hard wired from birth.. kentay

If I were king I would order congress into session and not let them pass a single new law until they had revoked 1,000 existing laws.

Ted, that's why your  Republican and I am a Democrat you have no need of a Democracy just a dictatorship. If you look back at history all warring  countries were ruled by right wing dictator, kings or right wing religious rulers, but always from the right side of the political spectrum. The government rule is within a democracy, and is foreign to your thinking  as well as most of your co-hearts, who think like you. The difference between you and your co-hearts is you say what you believe and think, and they try to hide the fact they are right wingers.  Kentay
