good reading-fictional but real enough
« on: November 25, 2012, 01:52:30 pm »
has anyone read any of daniel quinn? i've gobbled up ishmael in one day and now i am just getting into the story of B. i can't agree with every notion in them- such as population growth isn't being controlled-it is-just not to the extent that will make a diff considering HOW we organize and energize ourselves-but it is excellent reading! the ideas are not new to me either but i've never read anything that got these ideas in one place for easy contemplation. sad to think these books are 15-20 years old and yet we continue the same path-ya know-the one that is killing us assuredly as the frog in the boiling pot?

I sure haven't, nor am I about to in these busy times, but I find your description intriguing.  Gonna put that on my Must Read list.

i think u would Love these books, clara.

as for myself-i am now B-for having read the book and for having always Loved the world, the universe. i always felt and now i KNOW it is sacred, everything about it is sacred-including us humans. we and everything here are forever evolving towards something we cannot know-but know/feel is sacred. all that crap about us being flawed is just that-crap! we r what we r until we evolve-neither good or bad- just inevitable and still sacred. we need to stop believing all those religions that tell us we own the world, are apart from the world, and need to be saved-that idea is what is killing the world as we know it. we need to take care of our world around us so we can keep evolving in the way that we are SUPPOSED to. we r standing in our own way by acting as tho we r somehow better than everything on the planet and in the universe-the only thing worth saving (and from what, btw?)! how arrogant!

it just dawned on me this is probably not a good place for my subject, but then thinking again- it is. i should duplicate it in my new dig's, eh? can that be easily done, somehow, clara?

I can move it to there if you like.
Consider it moved.

Well, moving is less work that a duplication.  All you had to do is just start a new thread up here on the same topic.  I should move this back, then? The duplication gets you ahead how, exactly?

Ok. Usually, any admin would object to duplicate threads as such because most people would regard that as board flooding, but hey--nobody else is here to complain about it so I could go either way. Whatever you like, we'll go with. :)

i don't really care, but i gotta say- just 2 identical posts make a flood? that's news to me. if one answer is relevant to 2 or 3 different questions-must we really rearrange the wording of the answer in order to not be considered a flooder, or should we just stay mum on two of the three questions? ah, maybe mumming is exactly what is to be accomplished with this silliness. maybe i just never understood everyone else's def. of flooding? well, it's dumb-that's why i didn't get it, i guess.

Well, it's a matter of community nettiquette anywhere else in cyberspace. People get banned sometimes for posting duplicate threads, and some boards will call it spamming a board rather than flooding.

Not that I'd ban anybody, but that's how usual boards usually operate is all.
