Changes at FOX News
« on: February 07, 2013, 05:33:53 pm »
Dick Morris and Sarah Palin have been let go. Karl Rove was reportedly sidelined for a while.

It seems like FOX is making some changes.  How big?  I guess we will see but personally I'd like to see O'Reilly and Hannity go. Both shows get high ratings (for cable news) but both seem very stale to me.  O'Reilly's no nonsense from the guests style was once refreshing but now it's old.  I'm ready for a change.

I'd like to see a Charlie Rose like show in prime time that sports a conservative host who does in depth interviews with thinkers on both the right and the left.  I'm tired of the "tastes great, less filling" arguments that Hannity especially did every night.  Three minutes interviews are too short be useful for anyone.  We need an hour or more covering just one or two topics and no more of the constant badgering.

I'd watch, although I doubt it would have mass appeal.

Sounds like something PBS should add for fairness and balance.  You know, Firing Line!

PBS already has Inside Washington, starring Nina Totenberg and Charles Krauthammer, which is priceless these days...especially when Krauthammer steps in it.  There are two other panelists that are semi-regular and subject to rotation.

Fox still doesn't taste good, fluff or no fluff, but every once in a while it's interesting to catch all the intramural GOP infighting.

Nah.

Yeah, pretty much like Firing Line only it needs to be an hour.  I think Firing Line was only a half hour long which is fine if there are no commercials but on commercial stations advertisements must eat up between 15 and 20 minutes of an hour long show.

It would be great to have an even tempered and civil guy like Buckley to host but I'm afraid that the attention span of Americans is getting shorter and the average viewer needs shouting and rude confrontation to keep their interest.

I'd be OK so long as they had some Bach theme music.

Agreed.  And the host would have to make it a habit to lean way back in his chair and always have a pen in his hand.
