I stopped at number one. The US government did not (edit) build the Hoover damn.  It was built by a private consortium called Six Companies that won the bid.

As I scrolled down I also noticed you credited Headstart as a good program started by government.  I personally find this odd that you would do such a thing considering you criticized the program when it began.

To be honest, the Government had the idea for Hover, but it did not build it.  And the Department of Motor Vehicle is a State issue.  Some states call it DMV, some call is Secretary of state.  So this is a state issue which is not something that they are referring to when they are talking about the Government.  They are referring to the FEDS.

FEMA, well the depends on who you ask.  That one is a toss up

The Military would not be a part of this as this is described in the Constitution.  So why is it on the list?

I could go on but I think I will stop there

Business makes my shoes, socks, pants, shirt, underwear, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, aftershave, my cereal bowl, Wheaties, milk, banana, newspaper, television, Morning Joe program, computer, keyboard, display, mouse, iPhone, wallet, boots, umbrella, my car, garage, garage door, garage door opener, my trash cans.......  I've missed hundreds of things and haven't even hit the road yet.  Do I need to continue with the rest of my day or is the silliness of your question completely embarrassing now?

Also, while the government may fund programs, business provides the labor and material.  The bombs that fall from a B1 bomber aren't built by government employees, they are built by private business.  The tanks that soldiers ride in are built by business.  The rifles that soldiers shoot are built by business. The busses that school children ride in are built by business.  Schools are built by business.  Think about it a little bit.  You couldn't wipe your butt properly if it wasn't for business.

Let's not forget that for the legimate entries on the list the taxes paid by individuals AND BUSINESS fund the government AND THOSE PROGRAMS.  Keep in mind that SMALL BUSINESS filers in any instances flie their business profits on their personal income tax.

Add that to the accomplishment list.

And if somebody wanted to build the Hoover dam today, what would Big Govt do? Get in the way, that's what.

The Founding Fathers established the first Dept. of Homeland Security. They called it "a Well Regulated Militia."

But, WAIT!  Business didn't accomplish any of that on their own!

Without Government guarantees, the Hoover Dam would not have been built because no Company would have ever built the Dam without the Government.  Legislation to authorize the dam was introduced repeatedly by Representative Phil Swing (R-Calif.) and Senator Hiram Johnson (R-Calif.) On December 21, 1928 President Coolidge signed the bill authorizing the dam. The Boulder Canyon Project Act appropriated $165 million for the Hoover Dam along with the downstream Imperial Dam and All-American Canal, a replacement for Beatty's canal entirely on the U.S. side of the border. It also permitted the compact to go into effect when at least six of the seven states approved it. This occurred on March 6, 1929 with Utah's ratification; Arizona did not approve it until 1944  Since about 1900, the Black Canyon and nearby Boulder Canyon had been investigated for their potential to support a dam that would control floods, provide irrigation water and produce hydroelectric power. In 1928, Congress authorized the project. The winning bid to build the dam was submitted by a consortium called Six Companies, Inc., which began construction on the dam in early 1931.

The Hoover Dam. THE HOOVER DAM!  This whole thing is about the Hoover dam?  Come on.

The Hoover Dam was built by business, under orders from politicians, using money coerced from the citizens.  That's the story. Period.

And as RWE smartly noted, such a project couldn't be built today without decades of legal wranglings initiated by tree hugging lefties trying to protect the ever popular Salt Harvest Marsh Mouse or some other cuddly rodent.

i think we can all agree that gov't is a facilitator. but it was truly the efforts of flesh and blood PEOPLE that got 'er done! businesses put in $$ and everyday avg working people putting in their blood, sweat and tears AND their dollars.

we NEED gov't. gov't helps to get things done in an organized fashion. or at least it should. it doesn't need to be BIG-it needs to be SMART and COMPASSIONATE-it needs to LISTEN to the people and their needs-not the businesses and theirs. businesses can't be compassionate or smart, really, by their very capitalistic nature.

this is a ridiculous argument.

see-i'm no anarchist-altho i sympathize now that our gov't has gone over to the dark, capitalist  fascist, side.

it is curious how the definition of fascism changed. if you look at a pre-1970 dictionary, it'll say something about the gov't in bed with the corporations using the military/police to make the world nice for them-not the people. but that isn't what it says now. check it out.
