Many years ago Rosie O'Donnell, the queen of nice, used this same argument when over his 2nd amendment stance:

That flintlock rifle looks pretty unsophisticated in today's world but lets not forget that it was state-of-the-art weaponry in it's day.

6000 rounds of ammo was purchased  by 50 different orders from the Internet.

Federal authorities were told over a half-dozen times that Bernie Madoff was up to no good and yet they did nothing.  But for some reason you expect that a pencil pusher in some federal agency is going to notice that a guy in CO is ordering ammo from different suppliers?  Dream on.

Can anyone tell me the purpose for US Citizen to have 100 round or multiple round clips for assault weapons?

Can you tell me why anyone should be allowed to race automobiles?  There is no reason for it.  Nobody is going to die if they don't get to see auto racing.  Maybe it should it be banned too.

In America people have the right to do things as long as they don't harm others.  Buying lots of ammo doesn't harm anyone and that's why it is legal.  Shooting people is harmful and that's why it is illegal.

If you're going to have a free society then there is a price to pay.

"When the 2nd Amendment was written..."
This is such a lame argument the left puts up. Its like saying that speech using a microphone or radio and tv is not protected under the 1st. High capacity speech reaching millions could be outlawed by our rulers. Or only newspapers printed with 18th century equipment and delivered by horse drawn wagons is what the founders envisioned under a free press.
Another argument the left brings up is that of a "well regulated militia" only refers to the National Guard. Do they think the National Guard should only use flintlock muzzle loaders?
The Founding Fathers established the first Dept. of Homeland Security. They called it "a Well Regulated Militia."

Kentay, this is a nation of 310 million people.  Every few years a kook grabs a gun and does something like this.  The math looks like this:

Deaths per year  = Number Killed / Years / 310,000,000

The likelihood of being killed in an incident like this is tiny.  It's not a big problem unless you're one of the victims or know one of the victims.  (I bet Keytay's head just exploded)

Ted, you heartless bastard!

Sorry folks but cancer is a leading cause of premature death in the USA, mass murderer isn't.  Just dealing with the facts here.

He ran out of cut and paste.

I stand by ny argument that this individual would have attacked the theater without guns.  He was hellbent on an attack.  The shooter is the killer and solely responsible.
A reminder for kentay:
I fully support going back to ALL, that says ALL THE CLINTON TAX and spend policies that led to the economic boom in the second half of the 90's.

In all honestly, it's hard for me to understand how the Second Amendment protects amassing an arsenal like this one.

So how much of an arsenal should a person be able to amass?  Is there going to be a one-size-fits-all law that says that nobody can have more than X number of bullets?  What about gun ranges?  How many bullets do they get allotted?

First off, this would have happened regardless of the strict regulations or not.  We have black markets and all one needs to do is go find one dealer to purchase what ever he/she would want.

Laws are written but only law bidding citizens follow them.  If you don't follow the law, then no matter what we do, it would still happen.  Do the common criminal follow the laws that are written?

How many bank robberies, murders, ****, child pornography, and other violations of the laws do we have in this country every day?  We can't say the law is the problem, because truth be told, we could have the strictest laws, and things would still happen.  This has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment, or the Republicans or Democrats, this is an issue of one person committing a heinous crime against many innocent individuals

6,000 Bullets
Published: July 23, 2012

With the ease of downloading a song, anyone with a computer and a credit card can order thousands of bullets and shotgun shells on the Internet, along with tear-gas canisters and speed loaders. They can get the same high-capacity ammunition clips that infantry soldiers use. They can even get bulletproof vests and SWAT helmets. All without fear of a single background check.

No one is paying attention to whether buyers have criminal histories or mental-health records. No one is monitoring bulk sales of ammunition to see who might be building an arsenal. Even after a young man in Colorado buys 6,000 rounds by mail order and uses them to commit mass murder, it is the rare politician who proposes to make the tools of terror slightly harder to obtain.

 kentaym,

If we had banned assault riffles, yes it would have been harder to get it.  But again, criminals don't exactly follow the laws now do they?  Look at the prohibition era?  Look at the use of Drugs, look at the other bans we have.  Does a ban on things stop stuff.  Sure it makes it harder to obtain, again one only needs to contact the black market

... criminals don't exactly follow the laws now do they?

Excellent point.  If criminals followed the law all we would have to do is make committing a crime unlawful. That would fix everything! Oh hey, we already did that! And yet we still have crime.
