Last week I explained that in Judaism ha-SatanYetzer ha-RaYetzer ha-TovYetzerWhy? Because were it not for the Yetzer ha-Ra no one would build a house, take a wife, give birth, or engage in commerce.

In other words, God is the source of the Yetzer ha-Ra

mmmmn. looks like this was the original thought behind the capitalists promotion of the idea that capitalism promotes innovation, ambition, etc. good things. when in fact those things can all be had w/o capitalism. rewards come in many packages that the capitalists are too greedy to consider as real.

Greed comes about due to feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. If there was no more valuable pursuits in life than money/power we would indeed be shallow.

I don't know if it's the source, since the Talmud predates capitalism by over a thousand years, but it is certainly consistent with it.  But contrary to your assertion, capitalism [and the greed which drives it] in fact DOES lead to both innovation and prosperity.  Marxism, which fancies itself more idealistic, does not.
